Accessibility – The Gift That Matters!
#GivingTuesday is a global movement for giving and volunteering taking place each year after Black Friday. The “opening day of the giving season,” it’s a time when charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for their favourite causes. #GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities; it provides a platform for people to encourage the donation of time, resources, and talents to address local challenges. It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners – nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses, and corporations, as well as families and individuals – to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness. Across Canada and around the world, #GivingTuesday unites communities by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another.
Hear Québec matches every donation given with a free accessibility consultation to the community on #GivingTuesday
It is estimated that 38% of the Canadian population between the ages of 20 and 79 have hearing loss. This is about 2.1 million people in Quebec who could benefit from accessibility measures in their community.
We are committed to creating a more accessible future for all of us. Every individual donation we receive on #GivingTuesday November 29th will go towards one hour of consulting, up to 25 hours. This will have a value of over $3500 and will ensure that people with hearing loss are included in Montreal communities.
What does Accessibility mean to you?
Hear we go: Building a more accessible future
We are thrilled to be consulting with the City of Montreal by bringing our brand-new FM System to their Universal Accessibility in Montreal event in December! This one measure alone has the power to transform the hearing experience: “The FM System is fantastic, it is unbelievable! I was very happy to have access to it” Sylvia Held, Hear Quebec Member.
This means every donor that makes a donation on #GivingTuesday is making Montreal even more accessible and inclusive. Now people affected by hearing loss, like Sylvia Held, have the power to create real change in Montreal.
Our goal is to go into the community and raise awareness about the importance of accessibility and how that promotes inclusion for everyone affected by hearing loss.
Members, volunteers, and Hear ambassadors will be able to participate in spreading the message of accessibility. Anyone who wants to help distribute masks will be given a free box of masks to hand out in their own communities. If you choose to participate, you will have to document your day of giving with testimonials, photos, and videos.
