Sometimes in certain listening situations, hearing aids may not be enough. Assistive Listening devices (ALDs) complement or give further assistance over and beyond hearing aids.

ALDs are defined as any equipment (besides a hearing aid) that can help or improve the ability to hear and to communicate with others in an effective manner. These devices or equipment usually transmit amplified sound directly to the ear, thus, bypassing the air space. They can be used with or without hearing aids.
There are devices that transmit text, transmit sound, and monitor the environment in the home.
